“My Big bum saved my life”
SUNHERO Khanyisile saved her little niece from a vicious attack by a pit bull terrier. The 33-year-old woman from Orange Farm in Joburg was walking her friend home on Tuesday afternoon when they were attacked by a dog.“I had the baby on my back and suddenly I saw a huge dog running towards us,” Khanyisile Msibi told Daily Sun.
“Its teeth tore the left leg of my pants. It then jumped on my back and tried to bite the baby.“I managed to pull my four-month-old niece out of the way of the animal’s teeth. My friend grabbed my niece and that’s when the dog bit me in the back of my right thigh.
“I was saved by my bum because I fell on top of the dog and it couldn’t move.“It wouldn’t let go of my thigh until its owner arrived and managed to get it away. But it still wanted my blood.”Khanyisile and her husband, Khathazile, are angry about what happened.
They want to know why such a dangerous dog was not locked up in a secure place.“It could easily have killed the poor kid,” Khanyisile said.Khathazile told the People’s Paper that he’d warned the dog’s owner about the dangers of letting the animal run free in the street.
“Now it has hurt my wife, and the owner didn’t even have the decency to come and see how badly injured she was,” Khathazile said.“That dog must be removed, finish and klaar.” The dog’s owner told Daily Sun that what happened was unfortunate.“When the incident happened I was busy rescuing the dog’s puppy, which was trapped,” he said.
“When I heard Khanyisile screaming for help I ran to rescue her. “I promise to keep the dog secure from now on, and I will help with Khanyisile’s medical expenses.”The Joburg SPCA said it would visit the dog owner’s home to investigate.
